In-Process Projects

This page provides a roadmap for consultants with projects that are In-Progress. This trip will take you through the primary activities involved in the Gaining Agreement phase of the Consultative Process. When you complete this work, your team will have (re)established how it will work together on the project, your clients and key stakeholders will be well understood and their project involvement optimized, and you will understand how ready your client organization is for your proposed solution and what to do to optimize overall project results. Please follow the roadmap below for In-Progress projects.

1. Client Strategy Planning

For In-Progress projects, your “in-flight” evaluation begins with an assessment of the situation and strategy. You must determine what is working and not working, and take remedial actions as needed. To guide you through this evaluation and planning, use the Client Strategy Planning Worksheet.

2. Work Agreement

Most In-Progress projects are in need of a new or revisited Work Agreement. Depending on how well the team is aligned and working around your client’s needs, you may need to do all parts of the Work Agreement process, or you may focus only on areas of need. The process involves understanding your client’s business and needs to develop a client profile, preparing for the Work Agreement meeting, conducting the meeting, and documenting the final Work Agreement. Regardless of the state of your team and project, the Work Agreement Tool will guide you through this process and provide you with a set of templates to capture your work.

3. Relationship Strategy and Management

With your Work Agreement solid, it is now it is time to ensure that you understand and are managing your relationships with your clients and key stakeholders in order to build alignment and optimize your project outcomes. Use the Relationship Opportunity Matrix Worksheet to accomplish this.

4. Readiness Assessment

When your team has determined your preferred approach and solution for the project, it is important to assess how ready the client organization is for the particular solution. Obstacles should be identified and dealt with as part of your solution implementation. Use the Readiness Assessment Matrix Worksheet to guide you through the assessment process.

You are now ready to complete your project planning, secure any additional resources needed for your project, and finish implementing your solution.
